Foal Reports 2021

What do the foals of …. Bastiaan 510, Wibout 511, Waander 512, Wolter 513, Auwert 514, Arent 515 and Boet 516 look like? Every year people are eagerly looking forward to the first crop of foals from the latest collection of stud stallions. In the past inspection season the KFPS Jury members have seen many of them. They have compiled an analysis than can be quite helpful for making stallion choices. In the past inspection season seven stallions presented their first crop of offspring. One or a few foals at inspection do not provide a clear picture of a sire’s progenitive qualities. But all findings of the inspections brought together do start to give a good insight into a stallion’s breeding qualities. The KFPS Jury members give a brief description of what they have seen.

Bastiaan 510 (Jisse 433 x Tsjerk 328);
Only twelve Bastiaan 510 foals have been inspected and this must be factored in for the interpretation of the report. The well-developed foals are longlined with average length of legs and often have a downhill body frame. It is a fairly uniform batch of foals. The foals have satisfactory breeding type. Expressiveness of the heads is satisfactory. The head-neck connection is average. The necks have good length and score average on conformation. Stance of the shoulder is usually good. Many have a weak back but most have satisfactory connection to the loin section, some have weak loins. The croups have satisfactory length, usually with sloping conformation. Foreleg conformation is correct. Sickle-hocked hind legs occur quite frequently. The legwork is very hardy. The walk shows satisfactory length of stride and more than satisfactory power. The trot has scope but should demonstrate more power. The foals trot with satisfactory suppleness. The foals need to develop more elevation. The hind leg should be placed further forward under the body.

Wibout 511 (Thorben 466 x Doeke 287);
The twenty-eight Wibout 511 foals have developed generously, they are longlined, have satisfactory high-legged quality and many have a downward build. This batch of foals shows little uniformity. The foals have satisfactory breeding type. Expression of the heads is variable. Many of them have a heavy head-neck connection. The necks have good length and vary in conformation. Shoulder conformation is mostly good. Back and loin section could be stronger. The croups score average on conformation and need more length. There is a lot of variation in stance of the forelegs, toeing-in as well as toeing-out occurs. Many have sickle-hocked hind legs. The legwork radiates more than satisfactory dry quality. The walk varies in length of stride and in most cases shows satisfactory power. The trot too presents a variable picture. Many of them need to develop more scope and power in trot. The foals have satisfactory posture and suppleness. The hind leg should be placed further forward under the body.

Waander 512 (Loadewyk 431 x Beart 411);
The thirty inspected Waander 512 foals show satisfactory to good development and satisfactory longlined and high-legged quality. There is much variation in terms of body shape. Because of their generous forehands the foals radiate lots of breeding type. Their heads are noble. The necks have lots of length and vertical stance. There is also much variation in the head-neck connections. Shoulder conformation is sloping. Many have a weak back but most have satisfactory connection to the loin section, some have weak loins. The croups score average on conformation and have more than satisfactory length. Stance of the foreleg is usually correct. In many cases the hind leg is sickle-hocked, sometimes even very sickle-hocked. The legwork shows great hardiness. The walk varies in length of stride and power. The trot is mostly ground-covering and powerful. In trot the foals have uphill body posture and more than satisfactory suppleness. The hind leg should be placed further forward under the body.

Wolter 513 (Fabe 348 x Karst 362);
The only five Wolter 513 foals that have been inspected is not enough for a reliable report. The description that follows therefore only provides a tentative picture. The five Wolter 513 foals that have been inspected have satisfactory development and more than satisfactory longlined quality, most of them are high-legged with satisfactory uphill body shape. The foals have satisfactory breeding type. We see noble heads and heads that are coarse. The necks have satisfactory length and vertical stance is satisfactory too. Shoulder conformation is good. They have satisfactory strength in the back but they should have a stronger loin section. The croups have average length and in most cases are slightly sloping. Quality of the legwork has satisfactory correctness, sometimes toeing-in occurs. Many have sickle-hocked hind legs. The legwork shows great hardiness. The walk shows satisfactory length of stride and average power. Scope in trot is satisfactory but needs more power. Body posture is satisfactory with more than satisfactory suppleness. The hind leg should be placed further forward under the body.

Auwert 514 (Jehannes 484 x Andries 415);
The seventy inspected Auwert 514 foals have a classy appearance and generous forehands. The foals are well-developed and longlined. They are generally high-legged foals with satisfactory uphill body shape. They display good breeding type, have expressive heads, the necks are long and are vertical. Occasionally we see an upside-down/under neck. In general, shoulder conformation is good. Back conformation is variable. Strength of the loin section is satisfactory. The croups mostly have satisfactory length and generally, are slightly sloping. Stance of the foreleg is usually correct. Stance of the hind legs is usually correct but in roughly one third of the foals the hind leg is sickle-hocked. The legwork shows great hardiness. In most cases the walk shows more than satisfactory power but varies in length of stride. The trot has scope but is variable in power. The foals have satisfactory uphill body posture and more than satisfactory suppleness. Placing the hind leg forward under the body is satisfactory.

Arent 515 (Jouwe 485 x Haitse 425);
The twenty-seven Arent 515 foals that have been inspected show satisfactory to more than satisfactory development, they have satisfactory longlined- and high-legged quality and display a variable picture in terms of body shape. The foals have satisfactory breeding type. The foals have expressive heads. The head-neck connection is mostly heavy. The necks have satisfactory length and score average on direction of the neck. Slope in the shoulders is satisfactory. Most have a strong back and loin section, slightly weak backs occur too. The croups have satisfactory conformation but in many cases need more length. Stance of the foreleg is usually correct. Many have sickle-hocked hind legs. The legwork has more than satisfactory dry quality. The walk varies in length of stride and scores average on power. The trot has satisfactory scope and is usually powerful with more than satisfactory body posture. The foals have satisfactory suppleness and the hind leg should be placed further forward under the body.

Boet 516 (Jouwe 485 x Uldrik 457);
The twenty-five Boet 516 foals that have been inspected are generously developed, they are high-legged and longlined foals with good body shape. These are foals with striking breeding type and expressive heads. Most of them have a light head-neck connection. The necks are mostly long with vertical stance. Occasionally a heavy neck occurs. Shoulder conformation is generally sloping. Quite a few need more strength in the back. The loins are usually strong and well-connected. The croups have length and usually have sloping conformation. Stance of the foreleg is generally correct, occasionally toeing-out occurs. Half of the foals have a sickle-hocked hind leg. The legwork radiates more than satisfactory dry quality. The walk varies in length of stride and shows satisfactory power. Scope in trot is mostly satisfactory, in terms of power there is quite a lot of variety. The foals have great posture with satisfactory suppleness. In many of them the hind leg should be placed further forward under the body.
