Horse of the Year

The FHANA Horse of the Year program is designed to acknowledge and reward those horses that are excelling in various disciplines.

Nominations will come from the following area and must be submitted by November 30:

Mare Show  Nomination-automatic nomination from the winners of the mare shows with the Horse of Distinction recommendation coming from the Sports Committee
Riding nomination-nomination comes from the membership at large or chapters and is based on riding sport performance accolades during the award year with the Horse of Distinction recommendation coming from the Sports Committee.
Driving nomination-nomination comes from the membership at large or chapters and is based on driving sport performance accolades during the award year with the Horse of Distinction recommendation coming from the Sports Committee.
Mare nomination-nomination comes from the membership at large or chapters and is not based on sport performance, but on breeding accolades with the Horse of Distinction recommendation coming from the Sports Committee.  Because it is an award for a specific year, the mare or an offspring must have been entered in an inspection during the award year.
Approved Stallion-Additional information will be required from the KFPS inspection data to be further evaluated according to the point system developed by the Sport Committee with the stallion receiving the most points becoming that Horse of Distinction and the recommendation coming from the Sports Committee.

 

A.    Nominations for the riding, driving, and mare categories must be submitted by Nov. 30

B.    Each year a horse may be nominated for only one of the five HOTY categories

C.    Nominations for the riding, driving, and mare categories must be submitted using the FHANA Horse of the Year Nomination Form

D.    The Sports Committee will present the top horse from each of the 5 categories to the FHANA Board of Directors during the December Board meeting for their approval.  Each of those 5 horses will receive the title “FHANA’s Horse of Distinction” and if all the following criteria have been met, will have their name placed on a ballot for HOTY vote by the FHANA members.

E.    The voting will take place from Jan. 1-15 and will be a popular vote from the membership. Each Business, Full, Sport/Pleasure, Young Adult, and Youth Member email address will receive one vote.

F.     A horse may be nominated as many times as possible until the horse has won the award.

G.     A horse can only win the award once in its lifetime.

H.    The horse receiving the most votes will become “FHANA’s Horse of the Year” to be recognized at FHANA’s AGM.
