Our condolences go out to the Leyendekker family for the passing of Frank Leyendekker who passed on January 15, 2022.

Frank was a founding member of the Friesian Horse Association of North America and a FHANA Hall of Fame member. He will be fondly missed by many.

Frank was born in Witmarsum, Friesland, Netherlands and immigrated to the United States.  He opened the door to horse transportation as he worked with Lufthansa airlines to build and design a special crate based on a horse’s measurements-a design that is still used today-to bring his Friesians by air to North America.  Frank was a pioneer of Friesian breed in North America. Frank bred 292 horses and owned many approved stallions, with Haike 482 and Sibald 380 still at Leyendekker Friesians.  In an article published in FHANA’s Friesian Magazine, Frank let us know what the Friesian means to him.
