We are excited to declare Success! for the Friesian Horse! With the diligent breeding efforts by North American breeders and the KFPS, and growing recognition of the capabilities and strengths of Friesians, global population has remained beyond 60,000 for several years now. Friesians have certainly proven their worth in harness and under saddle for recreation and sport, and The Friesian Horse Association of North America can take justifiable pride in their promotion and registration efforts.
The Friesian horse leaves the CPL as a true conservation success, with The Friesian Horse Association of North America new registrations in 2011 of 500, registrations through the Dutch Royal Friesian Studbook of more than 4000, and an estimated global population greater than 60,000. The Livestock Conservancy won’t forget about the breed, we monitor all livestock breeds in species audits that we conduct every 10 years, and are looking for ways to recognize success stories such as yours to feature the breeds that have “made it”.
