Fred DeBoer

Our condolences go out to the DeBoer family for the passing of Fred “Feike” DeBoer who passed away on Tuesday Dec. 15, 2020.

Fred was one of the founding fathers of FHANA and FHANA Hall of Fame member and he will be remembered fondly by many.  Fred DeBoer had a dream of bringing his native horse, the Friesian, to the United States in the 1980’s. In the last 25 years, he has accomplished his dream and established himself as one of the top Friesian breeders on the West Coast.

Fred DeBoer, also known as Feike, was born in Freisland, Holland where the Friesian horse originated.  “The Friesian horses and FHANA were a big part of his life.  He so loved his horses and being a dairy farmer who loved to stay home, it was the perfect combination.  Something he enjoyed and could do at home everyday.  My dad loved the challenge of finding the “perfect” four horses to put together for a four-in-hand and he was never afraid to sell one or all and put another four together.  Some of my best memories are being at the shows with my parents.  My parents also met so many wonderful people through these beautiful black horses and many became their best friends.  I loved also that my dad and my Uncle Pete could enjoy it together.  My uncle is my dad’s only sibling here in the United States and they were so close and enjoyed being together and shared a love of the friesians as well”.  Said Evie DeBoer-Locke.

The DeBoer family valued Christian Education for all four of their children and this was passed down to their grandchildren as well.  The DeBoer family would like contributions in the name of Fred DeBoer to be sent to the following two schools which their grandchildren and most of their great grandchildren attend.
