THe FHANA Board of Directors and the FHANA Member Council have agreed to retify the following statment in regards to the FHANA Member Council.
THE FRIESIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA
SEPTEMBER 13, 2016
OFFICIAL BOARD POSITION REGARDING THE NEW VENTURE BY SOME OF OUR MEMBERS
TO DEVELOP A FRIESIAN MEMBER COUNCIL WITHIN OUR MEMBERSHIP
The Board recognizes that the goal of improving communication among our membership is always worth striving for. With close to 1800 members spread across The United States of America and Canada the ability to operate a strong and cohesive organization can be challenging at the best of times. In that respect we need to be receptive and constructive with regard to a grassroots effort to bring about better communication.
On the other hand, FHANA is the official KFPS affiliate in North America and its Board of Directors, duly elected by the membership, is responsible for continuing to be the clear representative of the KFPS Friesian horse in North America.
Therefore this Board believes it imperative that the proposed Friesian Member Council agrees to place itself within FHANA’s organizational structure and ultimately be responsible to FHANA’s Board of Directors.
Once this very important foundational point is agreed to and the FMC is willing to make the minutes of all their formal meetings available in a prompt manner to the Board, we as Directors of FHANA are willing to offer a measure of autonomy to the FMC, including the ability to select its own chair person(s) and to set its own agenda. It is our hope that fresh ideas may flow from this initiative, stimulating a more cohesive FHANA membership. The challenge for the FMC may well be how not to duplicate the work of FHANA’s present committees.
The FHANA Board further encourages the leadership within the FMC to invite a Board member to be present at all its meetings to act as a resource person and communication link with the Board. We also believe it to be good practice to have the Board meet in person with the FMC leadership once per year to mutually assess the success of this venture.
