A Musical Extravaganza

09/06/2015

In succession to Faderpaard, this has all the signs of turning into a captivating spectacle with a mix of music, both classical and pop, famous and less-known guest performers, light, laser, fireworks and special effects in combination with breathtaking acts of Friesian horses.
The musical leadership is in the hands of the Friesian conductor Theo Brouwer who was also the director of the 2009 jubilee show commemorating the 130th anniversary of the KFPS. Among other activities, Theo Brouwer has been conducting the Frysk Jeugd Orkest (Frysk Youth Orchestra) for nearly fifteen years.

The Symphonic Music Connection
What makes this evening truly unique is the combination of acts with Friesian horses and the fantastic light show together with all special effects. The Symphonic Music Connection is an orchestra with forty professional musicians. Right now Theo Brouwer is not yet ready to reveal the choice of music and the identities of the performers who are going to make their appearance, but one of the highlights in the classical repertoire is Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812. It’s set to become a varied and dazzling concert- and show evening with the proud Friesian horse taking centre stage in up to six musical pieces.
‘The knowledge I gained from the jubilee show in 2009 is that horses have a perfect sense of hearing and a strong memory. From the experience of the training sessions they know exactly what to expect and how to anticipate’, Brouwer tells us. The conductor is the connecting link in the communication between musicians, riders, drivers and horses. ‘When things in the arena slightly veer away from what we have rehearsed then it is up to me to respond accordingly. It’s wonderful to see how the horses act like ballet dancers to give expression to the music and vice versa’, a hugely enthusiastic Theo Brouwer says. Ticket sales start mid September and will be announced on the KFPS website.
