New Internship in Equine Events Management

09/10/2013

The University of California, Davis, Extension, has taken a new step in its unique online educational series in Equine Event Management. The culminating course, Internship in Equine Event Management, is currently running for the first time, with one of the program’s interns securing a position at the prestigious Kentucky Fall Classic Saddlebred Show (http://kentuckyfallclassic.com).

“We are thrilled that our first internships include such a prestigious event and are proud of the esteem with which our program is now regarded,” said Mary Anne Porter, academic coordinator of the program at UC Davis Extension.

As a partnership with the United States Equestrian Federation, the UC Davis Extension online program in competition management is one of the only programs of its kind in the nation. The online course series is designed to build capacity in organizing, promoting, conducting and reporting results in USEF-recognized competitions. The courses emphasize the unique roles and responsibilities of event managers and secretaries.

The courses are taught by two highly regarded, very experienced instructors. Chuck Walker is director of education for the U.S. Equestrian Federation and an experienced horse breeder, show manager and educator with more than 40 years of experience.  Walker has also served in various roles for the USEF. Connie Davenport is a championship Show Secretary and owner/president of Golden State Dressage, Inc. She served a long tenure as State Secretary for California Dressage Society, and has been a USEF licensed Technical Delegate and Competition Management Committee member. Davenport brings years of hands-on experience in running some of the largest and most prestigious dressage competitions on the west coast.
