Jan Hendriks bid’s farewell

05/05/2013

Over the past decades Jan Hendriks has contributed enormously to the Friesian horse: as a judge, as a member of the Inspection Team and as co-founder of the breeding association ‘Het Friesche Paard Zuid-Nederland’. Jan Hendriks has been elected Honorary Member of the KFPS. In Phryso’s May-issue Jan Hendriks sheds his light on judging, Preferent status, his own breeding association and of course Friesian horses.

His view on the former use of awarding Preferent status on the basis of points: ‘That used to be a very complex system. To collect points you had to attend the Central Inspection. For people living outside Friesland it was rather difficult and for people living abroad downright impossible to accumulate points. At that time no digital data were available so after buying a mare you had to go to quite some lengths to retrieve the mare’s points. With today’s well-organised system achieving Preferent status is within everybody’s reach.’

Although no longer being an inspector, Jan Hendriks will continue his judging activities. ‘I will stay involved with the Friesian horse.
I do have my concerns however about how everything is being centralised in Friesland. It would be more beneficial to also invite judges from regions outside Friesland and even from abroad. Especially in these economically daunting times it is hugely relevant to treasure enthusiastic people and to safeguard support. Let’s join forces and make it our combined goal to preserve all that we have built together. Then the Friesian horse will look forward to a magnificent future worldwide.’
