During the final evaluation at the Central Examination held on Saturday, all three remaining stallions were entered in the studbook register. The trio satisfied the expectations of the jury for the show cart and driving tests and passed with flying colors. Each of the three stallions is the first male offspring of their sires to be approved for stud service. Oddly enough, two of the three stallions (Wimer 461 and Wylster 463) qualified by means of a second chance assessment and had already attracted a lot of attention during the classes for young harness horses held during local judging events. The second-chance assessment, which was added to the selection system in 2008, has thus been proven its worth. The registered stallions are:
Wimer 461 (previous name: Winfried) was sired by Hinne 427 during his first year at stud out of a star mare sired by Heinse 354. The stallion’s grand-dam is a star preferent mare sired by Tjimme 275. Wimer exhibits correct conformation and more than enough trueness to breed. Both in harness and under the saddle, Wimer displayed a powerful use of his hind legs. This ultimately contributed to a score of more than 80 points in all three disciplines – a score few stallions have matched. Wimer 461 will be standing at stud at the Henswoude stud station owned by the Bouma family in Oldeboorn.
Wytse 462 (previous name: Wiebe K.) was sired by Arjen 417, a stallion that was approved on the basis of his offspring last year. His star dam, sired by Oege 267 (preferent), was declared preferent this year. Wytse’s grand-dam is the well-known Rix, a model preferent mare sired by Reitse 272. Wytse, with the look of a real Friesian, showed much improvement in both his appearance and performance over the course of the performance testing. After a fine test as a mount (four weeks ago), he provided a delightful surprise in harness as well. Although apparently rather overawed by his surroundings, his excellent technique in the use of his hind legs during the harness test was quite obvious, and so was his excellent walk. Wytse 462 will become available for stud service at the Spannenburg stud station owned by the De Jong family in Tjerkgaast.
Wylster 463 (previous name: Wylster fan ‘e Wigêri) is the second stallion out of Jeldou fan ‘e Wigêri, a model preferent mare sired by Rypke 321, to be approved. The first was Haitse 425. Wylster is the first stallion sired by Rindert 406 to be registered in the studbook. While an approval based on the final evaluation as a mount was pretty much expected for the other two stallions, the jury had expressly indicated that Wylster would have to earn good scores in harness to be approved for stud service. Wylster, blessed with a beautiful forehand, succeeded in this mission by showing excellent balance and flexibility and an imposing use of his forelegs in harness. Wylster 463, like Wimer 461, will be standing at stud at the Henswoude stud station.
