Meet the Speakers:

Doeke Hoekstra-

More than 35 years of experience in the equine industry, having initially performed and practiced all possible activities and sports with the Friesian horse. Over the years, the work has shifted to mainly reproduction on the male side.  Many years of experience in processing semen, from freshly cooled to frozen, with different horse breeds.  Always looking for ways to improve the quality of the semen, from the management of the stallion to optimizing the processing process, and everything in between.  Very interested in the developments surrounding reproduction in mares, and in particular the various insemination techniques, in combination with optimizing sperm quality, to maximize the chances of fertilization.

Future goals:  Using the experiences gained over the years to improve the quality of the (frozen) semen of stallions, with the ultimate goal of optimizing the fertilizing capacity.  Follow new developments and possibly apply them in practice within the horse reproduction industry.

 

Marieke Akkerman-has been CEO of the KFPS since July 2021.

Before that, she was marketing and communications manager at the studbook for 10 years. During this time she was also the passionate driving force behind the organization of the successful theater program De Stormruiter. Marijke has -together with her family – two breeding mares.

 

Miel Janssen-has been a member of the KFPS board since the end of 2020. He fulfills the role of treasurer. Last year, Miel fulfilled the role of acting chairman for several months. Miel works as a (forensic) chartered accountant. He has Friesian horses as a hobby.
