Iron Spring Farm Says Goodbye to Brend 413, Sport

in news

Coatesville, PA— Iron Spring Farm’s beautiful stallion Brend 413, Sport passed away after living a full life. The 23-year-old Approved Friesian stallion was deeply loved for his wonderful disposition and presence in the barn. In 2023, Brend 413 was named the USEF Reserve Champion Friesian/Half-Friesian Sire. His offspring earned numerous National Championships, FHANA Keuring Championships and regularly scored in the 70s in dressage. Brend himself was also a successful dressage horse, winning the GAIG/USDF Region Third Level AA Championship with Mary Alice Malone in 2008.

“Brend was a great stallion,” said Malone, Brend’s owner and rider. “He was fun to be around and had a lot of personality. He always wanted attention and wasn’t above begging for treats. He also knew when he was in the spotlight and loved showing off at the keurings. Brend was very personable and loved meeting new people on farm tours. It’s wonderful to see his sons and daughters showing these same qualities.”

Malone and Brend won against all breeds at the larger shows on the East Coast. Brend was always a gentleman and showcased the beauty and elegance of the Friesian breed.

Brend is the sire of 2 Preferent mares, 3 Model mares, 2 Crown mares and 9 Sport offspring. Brend produced numerous FHANA Keuring champions and reserve champions, as well as the 2018 FHANA National IBOP Champion, Tessa KCF, who received a score of 82 to claim the title.

Another daughter, Nynke Ris, Model, was named 1st Premie an incredible four times in the Netherlands. Nynke was bred in the Netherlands and highly celebrated as part of ISF’s breeding program. In the US, she produced the Star mare Zabrina ISF and the IBOP winner Absolute ISF, extending the reach of Brend’s genetics.

In 2023, Brend’s son Eclipse won 7 National Championships and 2 Reserve National Championships at the IFSHA Friesian Grand National Championships.

Brend’s offspring also excel in dressage, including Tabitha ISF, who claimed 3 USDF All Breeds Reserve Championships (FHANA), and Vine fan de Stuken, Star who also won a USDF All Breeds Reserve Championship. Brend’s sons Eustis ISF and Paxton ISF, Star are both Dressage at Devon winners.

Brend was bred by F.H.A. Dagelet in the Netherlands. He was sired by Brandus 345, Sport/Preferent, out of Meta van de Strubbenhof, Star, by Doeke 287. His sire line is known for producing beautiful, black stallions with good character. On his dam side, Brend came from Stam Line 34, a strong and notable line.
