Airports:  The closest airport to Foxwoods Resort Casino is T.F. Green (PVD) in Warwick, RI. The second closest airport would be Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). Speakers and Biographies:

Dr. José M. García-López, VMD, Dipl. ACVS, Dipl. ACVSMR

José obtained his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996 and went on to complete a 1-year Equine Internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center (Ringoes, New Jersey, USA) followed by a 3-year Large Animal Surgical Residency with special focus on Equine Sports Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachusetts.  He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2001.  Following his residency José obtained a Lecturer position in the Section of Equine Sports Medicine and Imaging at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania where he remained for 2 years.  In 2002, he returned to Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine as an Assistant Professor in Large Animal Surgery and in 2010, he was promoted to Associate Professor.   While at Tufts, he has continued to concentrate his work in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal disorders as well as the use of advanced imaging in the equine athlete.  In 2010, he also became a faculty member of AO VET North America (AO VET NA), of which he is currently the Chair of Education.  He became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2013. Dr. García-López specializes in equine orthopedic surgery including arthroscopy and fracture repair, upper respiratory surgery, lameness diagnosis and treatment, and advanced imaging.  He regularly lectures and provides consultations at the national and international level.

Liz Austin

Liz Austin is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist. With the KWPN stallion, Olivier, bred by her mother, Madeleine Austin, Liz was long listed for the 2010 World Equestrian Games and was the reserve rider for the 2011 World Cup. Liz has been a fan of Friesians since childhood and had the distinct honor of bringing along the Jasper son, Thys of Seagail Friesians, to the highest levels of dressage. In addition to Thys, Liz has had a number of Friesians in her barn including the Grand Prix gelding Youke of High Meadow Farm, with whom she did a six-horse quadrille demonstration in 2017 under the lights at the Global Dressage Festival for the half-time show (note she didn’t choose one of her Warmbloods for this electric and demanding endeavor!) What Liz loves most about the Friesian horse is their incredibly generous character, kind, sensible temperament and tremendous aptitude for the top levels in dressage.

 

Sterling Graburn

Né le 20 février 1963, Sterling Graburn a toujours été impliqué dans les chevaux. Sa mère, Sally Eastman Graburn, était une entraîneuse bien établie qui poursuivait une tradition familiale commencée par son arrière-grand-père. Il a été élevé dans le sud-est de la Pennsylvanie, une région imprégnée de tradition équestre. Il a passé sa petite enfance à concourir en entraînement combiné, en partie en tant que membre du Radnor Hunt Pony Club, avant d'ajouter l'attelage combiné à l'adolescence. Il doit ses solides bases en dressage à sa mère, qui a toujours été une entraîneuse de dressage avant tout et qui a insisté sur le fait que le dressage est une formation continue.

Ayant commencé sa carrière de pilote en 1978, Sterling a participé à son premier événement international en 1984 en tant que navigateur pour le quatre en main d'Emil-Bernhard Jung, membre de l'équipe américaine, lors des Championnats du monde de quatre en main à Szilvasvarad, en Hongrie. En 1993, il a de nouveau été navigateur, cette fois pour Lawrence Poulin, plusieurs fois champion national de paires, à Gladstone, New Jersey, pour le Championnat du monde de paires. Sterling a été groom/navigateur pour Wendy Ying, DVM, lors des championnats du monde de poneys de 2005 à Catton Hall, en Angleterre.

En 2006, Sterling a participé en tant qu'individu aux Championnats du monde en simple à Pratoni del Vivaro, en Italie, où il s'est classé quatrième sur le marathon et meilleur conducteur américain au classement général avec Quincey, le hongre belge Warmblood d'Alexander Hewitt. Sterling a remporté trois fois le FEI Top Driver Award, le North American Challenge et le Single Horse Championship. En 2008, il a remporté le championnat national d'attelage combiné de l'USEF avec CS Dante of Earl, un Sport Cob appartenant au Dr Wendy Ying. Dante a également remporté le titre de cheval de réserve de l'année 2008 de l'USEF pour l'attelage combiné simple.

Poursuivant le succès obtenu avec Quincey, en 2012 et 2016, Sterling a participé aux Championnats du monde en simple avec Ulano (KWPN) et le demi-frère d'Ulano, Mannkato. Après avoir remporté un autre titre de champion national américain avec Ulano en 2012, la combinaison a continué jusqu'aux championnats du monde en simple au Portugal où ils ont été les concurrents américains les mieux placés. En 2016, en Autriche, Sterling et Mannkato ont été les concurrents américains les mieux placés.

Sterling continue de s'entraîner et de concourir en attelage de plaisance et en attelage combiné, en simple, en paire, en tandem, en licorne et en quatre en main. Depuis 2010, il est installé dans les environs de Lexington, dans le Kentucky.
